Chiropractic for Children: Start Your Kids Down a Healthy Path
In virtually all of life’s endeavors, getting off to a strong start is critically important and this is certainly true for the health and wellness of your children.
Pre-natal and post-natal chiropractic care at Ramer Chiropractic can play an important role in your child’s long-term health. Dr. Ramer is a specialist in chiropractic for children, having been trained by the renowned International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (FICPA). This training and experience sets Dr. Ramer apart from many chiropractors in Santa Monica and the neighboring communities.
As almost every parent knows, trips to the doctor to treat a variety of childhood illnesses can almost become a way of life and unfortunately in many cases these doctor visits end with handing the parents a prescription for some kind of drug. Chiropractic takes an entirely different approach to many of these common childhood ailments and it’s an approach that uses no drugs and emphasizes prevention. This empowers parents and the children themselves to promote good health through holistic and natural means.
A conservative approach to pediatric care
Parents increasingly recognize the dangers of subjecting their children to a litany of prescription drugs and even surgery in their family’s healthcare. Through pediatric chiropractic these can generally be avoided. Dr. Ramer works to regenerate the child’s own body’s ability to heal itself by correcting misalignments. These misalignments can cause the child’s nervous system to not function properly. Once they are corrected, the body regains its natural healing properties. Drugs and surgery can be avoided.
Chiropractic care for children extends well beyond treatment for back problems. Disruptions in the nervous system can manifest themselves throughout the body and in a variety of ways. Dr. Ramer provides cutting-edge chiropractic care for Santa Monica’s children and youth to heal problems such as:
- Pain, including headaches and earaches,
- Neck disorders,
- Shoulder problems,
- Childhood ailments, including colic,
- Trouble with the joints, including wrists, knees, ankles.
From treatment to preventative care
It’s every parent’s desire to see their children healthy and living life to its fullest. When a child is brought to Ramer Chiropractic to address a concern, Dr. Ramer’s natural and holistic approach to restoring and maintaining health and wellness is three fold.
Initially, the most important objective for Dr. Ramer is to alleviate the child’s symptoms. Next, Dr. Ramer turns her attention to correcting the root cause of the health problem. Finally, she believes in establishing a routine of prevention so the problems do not reoccur and the child can enjoy the full benefits of natural health and wellness.
Special training for special patients
Dr. Ramer’s interest in and commitment to the health of our children has led her to pursue special training in this important area in the field of chiropractic. She is certified in pediatric chiropractic care by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. This extensive training and experience allow Dr. Ramer to provide pediatric chiropractic care for children at all stages of their development.
Reflect on these three major stages of the growth and development of your child’s spine. From birth through about age five, children may suffer from spinal trauma caused during labor. Additionally, there are all kinds of bumps, twists, turns and jarring impacts as children learn to walk and become avid explorers of their environment. From ages five to 10, sports begin and all kinds of organized – and unorganized – physical activities. Finally, during the adolescent years, school backpacks, challenges to good posture, sedentary habits, physically demanding hobbies such as board sports and more begin to impact children’s spinal health.
Parents are also well familiar with the litany of childhood health issues their families often face, including the common problems such as poor posture, which can lead to significant complications later in life. Dr. Ramer’s experience, training and techniques allow her to successfully treat these health problems.
Childhood bumps, bruises and illnesses
We noted at the top of this article how common it is for children to require healthcare. There are many conditions that are associated with our youth, and those years are also the time when many of us are at our most active in physical activities, such as sports. Consequently, a long list of conditions associated with sports injuries added to the long list of childhood illnesses can cause significant problems for children and their families.
The chiropractic care for children available at Ramer Chiropractic can solve many of these problems. Further, because Dr. Ramer uses gentle techniques, such as activator adjustments and craniosacral therapy, her treatments are especially suited to children of all ages – even the very young.
If your child is suffering an injury caused by a sport or by the repetitive nature of training, chiropractic treatment can set things right. But the benefits do not stop there. A long list of common health problems often associated with childhood can be addressed through pediatric chiropractic treatments, including:
- Neck pain,
- Upper respiratory,
- Low back pain,
- Stomach pain,
- ADD and ADHD,
- Growing pains, and
- Persistent crying in infants.
If any of these conditions sound familiar, you aren’t alone. And if you share Dr. Ramer’s belief that it is important to start children down a path of natural health and wellness, why not call today to schedule an initial consultation for your child?

Plagiocephaly, Torticollis and Chiropractic Care
A 2017 study emphasises the contribution chiropractic care can make to improve Plagiocephaly in infants.
The last two decades have seen an increase in the prevalence of Plagiocephaly (aka flat head), which affects one in every five babies and is usually accompanied by torticollis. This increase is attributed to the SIDS recommendation for babies to sleep on their backs. This recommendation has brought about a decrease in the incidence of SIDS, it has at the same time coincided with increase in Plagiocephaly.
Plagiocephaly was originally thought to be mainly cosmetic in nature. But recent research points to more than cosmetic concerns and to a ‘growing association between Plagiocephaly and developmental delays, including hearing and vision disorders as well as motor, language and cognitive delays.
Chiropractic Care was found to help infants with Plagiocephaly according to the latest research at the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic(AECC) clinic in the UK. This 6 week study found a reduction in Plagiocephaly in the participants to be statistically and clinically significant. In addition, all infants had normal cervical (neck) range of motion at the end of study, which is considered to pave the way for the resolution of Plagiocephaly. Improvement would be expected to continue with head growth with the normal cervical range of motion restored, which contributes to Plagiocephaly. This provides another piece of evidence that pediatric chiropractic care is safe and beneficial and should become an integral part of any pediatric care program.
